Harvesting Baobab Bark

Figure 4. Bark harvesting of baobab (Adansonia digitata) in the communal lands of eastern Zimbabwe. Patches of bark are removed, soaked in water, and then pounded to prepare the fibers for weaving. Baobab bark takes ca. 9 years to recover pre-harvest thickness and fiber quality (Romero et al. 2000).
